When the Covid epidemic hit, our community partnered
together in a huge way to our neighbors who were suffering. One Heart McKinney helped coordinate our community response. Together, we solved housing and food needs and so much more. We were effective working together.
The pandemic is behind us, but suffering continues. We’re
here to solve crises now and to be prepared for what we
face in the future.
The need for food makes them pick up the phone and call us. A trained navigator answers the call, and learns they also need a job, have a family member in mental crisis, and the kids need immunizations.
Solving BIG Problems will make the WHOLE COMMUNITY better. We create problem-solving partnerships with:
We’re seeking to expand from 27 to 100 partners by the end of 2024. New partners include Texas Workforce Commission, Wellness Center for Older Adults and Allen Community Outreach.
Utlizing an online system, we are assembling a priceless database about all of the resources in our community – those who can provide help.
We are part of the City’s Disaster Recovery Planning project, serving as liaison between the City and nonprofits and churches, and assistingwith community asset mapping. We are secondary lead for the Healthand Social Services portion of the project. We are hosting biannual meetings with community leaders to focus on well-being in McKinney.
Working with Project McKinney Front Porch, MCDC, the City, McKinney Housing Authority, Habitat for Humanity, Chamber of Commerce, local banks and individuals, we are developing a plan to help more families obtain affordable housing.
The goal is to have a plan of action when a family first becomes homeless. Intervention within the first two weeks of homelessness is critical. We’re seeking church partners to serve as overflow shelters when the McKinney Emergency Overnight Warming Shelter (MEOWS) is operating.
The C.L.I.M.B. after-school program, originated by St. Andrews Episcopal Church, is a model program for addressing social service gaps in McKinney. We are seeking similar projects. When a social service gap is identified, we convene interested parties, create a framework for the program, find a leader, and launch and publicize the program. Needs already identified include an after-school program for MISD students living in hotels.
